Crowns
on “Christ the King”
This
year on Christ the King Sunday, we committed the cardinal
church sin; we did something new and different.
In
recognition that we all too often believe that we are kings
and queens of our own lives, that we are sufficient unto
ourselves, we were all given crowns which represented this
self-serving falsehood.
As
Christians we believe that Christ is the one and only King of
our lives, and there are to be no monarchs before him.
Christ is to be completely in charge, both in this
world and in the one to come.
Thus,
as a symbolic offering of ourselves in obedience to Christ, we
took our crowns forward with us during communion and laid them
down before the Altar, at the feet of Christ.
We were making the statement that Christ is King and we
are not. Christ
alone is King of kings!
Sincere
thanks to C.
Wolfe
for designing and hand-producing all of the crowns!
Could
you Help?
Rosedale and the
Muhlenberg Pantry
We
are the lead church for January at the Muhlenberg Churches
Food Pantry, and we need your assistance. Let’s
get together and work for the betterment of our community by
helping to feed the hungry.
We
need help with the set-up, which will start at 7PM on Wenesday
evening, January 18th.
This effort takes a little more than an hour, and our
plea is especially for those who normally work during the day
and are unable to assist at the distribution.
Then
the distribution help is needed on Wednesday, January 19th,
beginning at 2PM and lasting through 6:30PM.
If you
can’t be there at
2:30
then come when you
can. Here we
especially need those who can help the clients take the food
out to their cars.
If
you can assist, and remember this is part of our Christian
calling, then please talk to one of the following, who are all
part of the Pantry Leadership Team: B. Coller, L. Kemmerling,
J. Shaner, S. Shaner or B. Leiby.
The
SOUPER BOWL Is
Coming! Sunday, February 5th
As we always do, we will be participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring on Sunday, February 5th.
You will be able to vote for your favorite Super Bowl
Team through depositing either cans of soup or dollars into
the proper pot, and yes, we at
Rosedale
will once again
predict the winner of the Pro Football Souper Bowl.
Although this is all done in fun, we do have a serious
purpose in mind. The
money we raise will be given to the Greater Berks Food Bank,
and the cans of soup will go to the Muhlenberg Pantry.
In both cases we will be following Christ’s command
to care for the “little ones.”
Worship
Childcare
We
are always happy to have help in the nursery on a Sunday
morning. Would you be interested in sharing your time with the
children? You can read, do puzzles, watch videos, color.
Contact Jackie Ventresca if you can help or sign the list in
the worship childcare room.
